FANTASTIC DONINGTON FINALE

25 September 2017

TF Sport showed great pace to record a brilliant one-two finish on Sunday (24 September) at Donington Park, bringing to a close the 2017 British GT Championship on a very positive note.

Having dominated qualifying, Mark Farmer and Jon Barnes lined up on pole position for the first time, with their team mates Derek Johnston and Jonny Adam joining them on the front row of the grid in second position.

The start saw Johnston lose a little ground but was soon able to work his way back up second position behind Farmer. The battle for the lead then commenced with Farmer holding Johnston at bay for the whole of the first hour of the race until the pitstop and driver change.

With a 10-second success penalty to serve from Brands Hatch, Barnes lost the lead of the race to Jonny Adam, although he was only 5 seconds behind Adam once the pit stops had shaken out. Adam led from Barnes and the two TF Sport teammates battled for position until late in the race, when they settled for a superb one-two finish to cap an excellent end to the season for the TF Sport team.

The victory also marked a record 12th for Adam in the British GT, while Johnston was also awarded the Gentleman’s Driver Trophy to cap off what was an almost perfect weekend for the team.

Tom Ferrier, TF Sport Director

“A great weekend. Team, car, drivers, were all on top form all weekend. We were fast in every session and deserved the result. A 1-2 is a lovely way to finish the year.”

Mark Farmer, Am driver #11

“It was a really good weekend, but it wasn't easy. I was getting a lot of pressure from Derek throughout my stint, so, so much pressure. But I really enjoyed it, looking forward to next season.

Jon Barnes, Pro driver #11

“It was good to get my first pole in GT racing and to do it with Mark was mega. We had the success penalty to serve from Brands Hatch which made a win very difficult to achieve. But we had really good pace this weekend and we were just unable to build a big enough gap to maintain the lead after the stop, which was a shame.
